The Pembroke Fooball Club Dinner

Facebook, The Cambridge Student, Cambridge Evening News, Varsity, the Junior Parlour Website; I’ve tried them all, and I still can't find any information about the Pembroke College Football Club.

I know they exist because we catered a dinner for them on Friday, and I’m sure I’ve seen them mentioned somewhere, maybe in a local paper? Not even the God of Google could help me in my quest for football trivia!

Faced with a lack of relevant content for today’s write-up, I’ve been forced to broaden my search to encompass football in general, specifically David Beckham and Liverpool. So here goes.
I woke up this morning to the news that David Beckham had ruptured his Achilles tendon during AC Milan's 1-0 win over Chievo on Sunday. In all likelihood, Beckhams chances of making an appearance in his fourth World Cup next summer are now over.
Also last week, my favourite team Liverpool lost twice in quick succession, and are now unlikely to finish in the top four of the Premier League (vital if they are to compete in next year’s Champions League competition).
Bad news normally comes in threes, and today’s third strike was the lack of any useful information about the Pembroke College football club. Fortunately, I have a copy of Friday night's football club menu, and a few photos of the food. Lets see what we can learn about them from their choice of food!

When a team faces the unknown, they tend to adopt a defensive, play safe strategy. Friday night’s starting line-up of Brie en Croute with mixed salad was a good defensive move. Always popular and vegetarian friendly, the brie was sure to go down well and satisfy the most demanding of supporters.
Up next our team choose, Free-range chicken with mango salsa, black olives and pommes de terre puree. Choosing ethically sourced chicken as a main course was playing it safe, and our team were looking good going into the second half of their dinner.
If there was ever any doubt of the Pembroke College football team winning the Menu Cup, their choice of peanut butter brownie put all doubt to rest. Warm chocolate, peanut butter, cream and more chocolate in the form of a dark, rich sauce was easily the match winning combination.
Whether or not the menu choice is any reflection on the way Pembroke plays its football is anybodies guess, however, when it comes to choosing good food, our football club wins hands-down.
