Last Night's Meiji and Waseda Programme Dinners (and Baseball Rivalry!)

Last night we hosted a dinner for the Meiji University, a private university in Tokyo and Kawasaki, founded in 1881 by three lawyers of the Meiji era, Kishimoto Tatsuo, Miyagi Kōzō, and Yashiro Misao.
The Meiji period, or Meiji era denotes the period in Japanese history during the 45-year reign of the Meiji Emperor (from 23 October 1868 to 30 July 1912). During this time, Japan began its modernization and rose to world power status. Meiji means 'Enlightened Rule'.
Also last night, we hosted a second dinner in the Old Library for the Waseda University, Meiji's fierce baseball and rugby rivals. Meiji University's baseball team belongs to the Tokyo Big Six league. Every year rugby union and baseball matches between Meiji and Waseda Universities attract support among its students; was this the reason we didn't combine the two dinners in the main hall!?
Waseda vs Meiji Baseball Game
One thing I hope both Universities can agree on, is how good the food is at Pembroke;-))
We began last night's dinner with crab chowder and sweetcorn puree. Appologies for today's photographs, it looks as if one of the chefs stuck his thumb on the lens right before they shot the pictures!
The main course was rump of lamb, cooked sous vide, and served with champ potato and rosemary jus.
For dessert, we served vanilla creme brulee with strawberry soup and chocolate shortbread, yum!
Bon Appetite!
